PSL: Philips Gold eliminates Meralco, Cignal secures semis spot
Philips Gold bounced back from a 4-set loss to Foton last Thursday and eliminated the winless Meralco Power Spikers

MANILA, Philippines – Philips Gold bounced back from a 4-set loss to Foton last Thursday and eliminated the winless Meralco Power Spikers, 25-12, 26-24, 25-19, in the 2015 Philippine Super Liga Grand Prix Spike on Tour, Saturday, November 7, at the Malolos Sports and Convention Center in Bulacan.

The Lady Slammers regained its winning form and crushed Meralco with American import Alexis Olgard’s 10 kills, 5 blocks, and one ace. NU standout Myla Pablo and another foreign reinforcement, Bojana Todorovic, chipped in 13 and 9 markers respectively.

Philips Gold started the game strong, banking on the offensive efforts of their imports. However, the DLSU-powered Meralco took control of the second set and grabbed the lead at 22-21 only to fall to the Lady Slammers because of a series of attack errors.

Import Liis Kullerkann contributed a team-high of 11 points for the Power Spikers while Mary Joy Baron and Cydthealee Demecillo combined for 17 points.

Meralco eventually bowed to Philips Gold and was eliminated from contention with a 0-7 win-loss slate.

On the other hand, the Cignal HD Spikers booked a semifinals ticket after dominating the RC Cola-Air Force in the main showdown, 25-19, 20-25, 25-10, 25-19.

The HD Spikers now share the top spot with early semifinalist Petron.

University of Portland standout Ariel Usher unloaded 22 points while fellow import Amanda Anderson and Cherry Vivas helped her with 15 and 9 markers apiece to secure a semis slot for Cignal.
