MANILA, Philippines – Philips Gold and Foton whipped both of their opponents to extend winning streaks and gain much needed momentum for the knockout rounds.

The Philips Gold Lady Slammers grabbed the league’s solo lead after trouncing another Superliga heavyweight Cignal HD Spikers, 25-22, 25-14, 25-23, in the 2015 Philippine Super Liga Grand Prix women’s volleyball tourney, Thursday, November 12, at the Arena in San Juan.

The Lady Slammers destroyed a weak Cignal side as imports Bojana Todorovic and Alexis Olgard exploded with 19 and 14 markers respectively. NU’s Myla Pablo also contributed 13 points.

“Confidently, I expected an easy win kasi pinaghandaan namin,” Philips Gold head coach Francis Vicente said.

Philips Gold now climbs to the top spot with a 7-2 win-loss record while Petron sits at the second spot and Cignal dropping to third place.

Surging Foton extends its winning run after trouncing the already out RC Cola-Air Force in a straight set, 25-21, 25-21, 25-19.

Jaja Santiago spearheaded the Tornadoes with 15 markers while American import Lindsay Stalzer submitted 12 points.

Based on Superliga’s format, the top team will clash with the fourth while the second will face the third in a one-game semifinal match where the finalists will be determined. – Rappler.com
