The Lady Eagles also finished in third place two years ago in the Palembang, Indonesia edition of the tournament

MANILA, Philippines – The Ateneo Lady Eagles managed to eke out a critical win over host team Singapore, 22-25, 25-17, 25-21, 22-25, 15-7, Saturday, July 16, to clinch the bronze medal in the 18th ASEAN University Games women’s volleyball at the National University of Singapore.

The Lady Eagles also finished in third place two years ago in the Palembang, Indonesia edition of the tournament.

Ateneo dropped the first set and clinched the next two frames, but the hard-fighting Singaporeans forced a fifth set. The Philippines swept Singapore in their matchup in the eliminations round last Thursday, July 14.

Queen Eagle Alyssa Valdez led the charge for Ateneo, most especially in the deciding canto when the Philippine delegates buried Singapore in a 8-3 hole which the latter weren’t able to recover from.

The Blue Eagles also finished third after defeating Singapore as well in the men’s volleyball of the ASEAN University Games. – Rappler.com
