Creamline, PayMaya book outright PVL semis slots
MANILA, Philippines – Alyssa Valdez took charge as Creamline downed BaliPure-National University, 25-22, 25-18, 25-16, to earn an outright semifinal slot in the Premier Volleyball League Season 2 Reinforced Conference on Saturday, June 2, at the FilOil Flying V Centre in San Juan.
Valdez unloaded 15 points built on 11 spikes and 4 service aces, while Thai Kuttika Kaewpin also chipped in 10 points to power the Cool Smashers, who cruised to their 4th straight win to stay solo on top with a 5-1 record.
The Water Defenders, composed of the core of the NU high school team, slipped to 3-3 as American reinforcement Janisa Johnson was also held to 13 points.
PayMaya had a tougher time in securing the other outright semifinal berth as a gritty PetroGazz side came out fighting before the High Flyers hacked out a 27-25, 25-23, 25-17 victory.
American Tess Rountree fired all of her 19 points off attacks to lead the High Flyers, who improved to 4-2 behind Creamline.
PayMaya held a superior quotient, thus securing the automatic Final Four spot even if it wound up tied with another team.
Grethcel Soltones added 12 points as the High Flyers dealt the Angels their 4th loss in 7 outings. – Rappler.com
