PayMaya puts lock on second spot to join the Creamline Cool Smashers as outright semi-finalists

MANILA, Philippines – The PayMaya High Flyers outlasted  the Balipure Water Defenders in 5 sets, 13-25, 25-21, 25-21, 20-25, 15-9, to put a lock on the second spot in the Premier Volleyball League Season 2 Reinforced Conference on Wednesday, June 6 at the Filoil Flying V Arena.

The High Flyers headed into the game assured of the number two spot – which comes with an outright semi-final seat – but that didn’t stop them from coming out aggressive in the final set behind import Tess Rountree.

Rountree topscored with 27 points off 25 spikes and two aces as PayMaya wrapped up its elimination run at 5-2 to join the top-ranked Creamline Cool Smashers as early semi-finalists.

Jorelle Singh also contributed 11 points and Grethcel Soltones added 10 for the High Flyers.

Tied at two sets apiece, the High Flyers pulled away starting with 3 unanswered points in the 5th set. Celine Domingo later fired a crucial service ace to give the High Flyers a commanding 11-6 lead on the way to a strong finish.

The Water Defenders wound up at 6th at 3-4 and will mix it up with the other quarterfinalists for a shot at the last two semi-final seats.
