BanKoPerlas, BaliPure win PVL quarters opener
MANILA, Philippines –The BanKo Perlas Spikers took down the Tacloban Fighting Warays in straight sets, 25-22, 25-20, 25-18, to get their quarter-final bid going in the Premier Volleyball League Season 2 Reinforced Conference on Saturday, June 9 at the FilOil Flying V Centre.
American import Lakia Bright led the Perlas Spikers with 19 points, 17 from attacks, while Jutarat Montripila fired all but one of her 13 points off spikes.
The Balipure Water Defenders also recovered from a 3-game skid after outlasting the Iriga-Navy Oragons in five sets, 25-17, 18-25, 20-25, 26-24, 18-16, in the other match.
Janisa Johnson delivered a big game, finishing with 27 points built on 22 attacks, 3 blocks, and two aces for the Water Defenders.
The Lady Oragons looked headed for the win after dominating the middle sets behind American imports Macy Ubben, who topscored with 32 points from 30 attacks, and Lauren Whyte, who had 23 points off 21 attacks.
But the Water Defenders regrouped with Alexis Matthews and Mhicaela Belen also chipping in 19 and 14 points, respectively.
The 4 teams, along with PetroGazz and Pocari-Air Force, are chasing for the last two semi-final berths in the single-round phase.
