Pocari bolsters PVL semis bid, PetroGazz stays in the hunt
The Lady Warriors remain unbeaten in the quarterfinals as the Angels nail their first win

MANILA, Philippines – The Pocari Sweat Lady Warriors grabbed the early lead in the quarterfinal round at 2-0, while the PetroGazz Angels picked up their first win in two games  in the Premier Volleyball League Season 2 Reinforced Conference on Wednesday, June 13 at the FilOil Flying V Centre.

The Lady Warriors scored back-to-back wins after outlasting the Iriga-Navy Oragons, 23-25, 25-18, 25-20, 25-22.

After a slow start where they yielded the first set, the Lady Warriors recovered with American import Madeline Palmer, who fired 16 of her 19 points off attacks.

Arielle Love also scored all of her 18 points on attacks to fuel the Lady Warriors.

Earlier, the Angels swept the Tacloban Fighting Warays, 25-15, 25-17, 25-21, behind  Olena Lymareva-Flink

The Angels banked on the powerful attacks of imports Lymareva-Flink and Anastasiia Trach to erect commanding leads early – 17-8 in the first set and a 10-point buffer in the second set, 18-10 – and take full control of the match.

Lymareva finished with 22 points built on 15 attacks, 6 aces, and a block for the Angels, while Trach made all but one of her 11 points on attacks.

The Fighting Warays managed to get their rhythm in the 3rd set and even pulled ahead for the first time, 15-14, following back-to-back aces by Thai import Patcharee Seangmuang.

But the Angels quickly got their bearings back to wrap up the match in straight sets.

Thai import Amporn Hyapha topscored for the Warays with 16 points off 14 attacks and one block.

The Lady Warriors will try to sustain their unbeaten run against the BanKo Perlas Spikers on Saturday, June 16 at the same venue.

The Angels will shoot for their second win versus the Balipure Water Defenders, while the Fighting Warays will try to snatch their first win over the Iriga-Navy Oragons on the same day.  – Carla Molina/Rappler.com
