Alyssa Valdez ‘nervous, but fulfilled’ in upcoming film debut
Volleyball phenom Alyssa Valdez stars in 'My Letters to Happy'

MANILA, Philippines –  In her first-ever acting role, Alyssa Valdez felt fulfilled despite the pressure of acting with veterans.

“It was definitely fulfilling, it was really worth it na hirap (it was difficult but really worth it). I’m really happy that I really tried and grabbed this opportunity,” said Valdez, the former Ateneo volleyball star who will star in a romance-drama film My Letters to Happy.

Together with Glaiza de Castro and TJ Trinidad, who will portray the lead characters Happy and Albert, the volleyball phenom plays Cindy – a trusted assistant and trainee of Trinidad.

Valdez said that performing scenes alongside veteran actor Trinidad was nerve-racking but certainly memorable, adding that the experience allowed her to test her talents outside volleyball.

“It was a different environment for me… It was very hard, actually. Because in volleyball your emotion is based on a situation given to you, but here, you have to make a situation based on what the director will ask you to do,” added Valdez.

Director Pertee Briñas praised Valdez on her debut and shared that he made the right choice to cast her in the film.

“She’s enjoying and I think that’s very important. So for me, it was easy. It was just right when Alyssa’s here,” said Briñas.

While she’s still not sure of taking this path in the future, Valdez is keen on enhancing her acting skills.

The film – on love that’s suddenly lost after it brought out the best in a person – will be in cinemas on July 17, 2019.  – Czarina Brozo/Rappler.com
