The Creamline Cool Smashers look primed to defend their PVL Reinforced Conference title

MANILA, Philippines – After stumbling in the 1st set, the Creamline Cool Smashers bounced back to dominate the PetroGazz Angels, 24-26, 25-16, 25-16, 25-22, to move within a win of a third straight Premier Volleyball League (PVL)  Reinforced Conference title on Wednesday, July 10 at the Filoil Flying V Centre in San Juan.

Kuttika Kaewpin led the Cool Smashers with 21 points off 18 attacks and 3 aces to go with 16 excellent digs, while Aleoscar Blanco and Alyssa Valdez chipped in 18 points and 16 markers, respectively.

We’re eyeing our goal talaga. so hanggang di pa tapos ’yung game, we keep pushing each other so ayun. Maganda naman ’yung result,” said Creamline captain Valdez.

(We’re really eyeing our goal, so until the game is not yet done, we’ll keep pushing each other. The result turned out good.)

Creamline, which aims to wrap up the conference with 13 straight wins, will go for the crown on Saturday, July 13, 4 pm, at the Filoil Flying V Centre.

PetroGazz rallied back from a six-point deficit, 15-21, to upset the Cool Smashers in the opening frame as Wilma Salas and Janisa Johnson closed out the set.

But by the 2nd frame, the Cool Smashers made sure there wouldn’t be another comeback as they raced to a 10-point lead, 18-8, and held control with Valdez coming through the final stretch, 25-16, to tie the match at 1-1.

Riding on the strong momentum, Creamline got off to an 11-2 start to the 3rd set and again cruised the rest of the way, 25-16, for a 2-1 match advantage.

Although the Angels regained their fighting form in the next set, the Cool Smashers stayed poise amid a 23-22 threat to wrap up the game, the last point on a Cherry Nunag overreach. – Rappler.com
