Ateneo bags ‘A’ top seed in V-League quarterfinals

MANILA, Philippines – After over a month of eliminations, the 11th Shakey’s V-League First Conference enters its quarterfinals phase with only the top four teams per group advancing.

In Group A, the Ateneo de Manila University Lady Eagles (4-1) bagged the top seed, followed by the Arellano University Lady Chiefs (4-1), Adamson University Lady Falcons (4-1), and the College of St. Benilde Lady Blazers (2-3).

The streaking University of Santo Tomas Golden Tigresses meanwhile are the top finishers in Group B with a 4-1 slate, followed by defending champions National University Lady Bulldogs (4-1), Davao Lady Agilas (4-1), and Far Eastern University Tamaraws (2-3).

New groups, more excitement 

In the quarterfinals, the remaining 8 squads shall be grouped with a new set of foes.

In Group I are top seeds Ateneo and UST, and third seeds Adamson and Davao while entering Group II are second seeds Arellano and National U, and fourth seeds St. Benilde and FEU.

Teams shall play a single round robin within their group, with the top two per bracket advancing to the semifinals.

Action starts on Thursday, May 1 at the Filoil Flying V Arena as Arellano and National U collide in the opener while Davao and Ateneo face each other in the main event.
