Marano leads as AirAsia goes two in a row
Abigail Marano recorded 18 points to lead the AirAsia Flying Spikers to their second straight Super Liga win

MANILA, Philippines – Philippine Super Liga no. 2 overall pick Abigail Marano made sure she’ll get a share of the spotlight on Wednesday, May 21 as she recorded 18 points to lead the AirAsia Flying Spikers to their second straight win.

It was not a sweep this time but Marano – known for her leadership and tenacity on the volleyball arena – carried the Flying Spikers to back to back victories after scoring 18 points in AirAsia’s 25-21, 25-21, 20-25, 19-25, 15-11 conquest of the Cignal HD Spikers in the PSL All Filipino Conference 2014.

Marano scored her 18 points on 11 attacks, 2 block points, and 5 aces to help her team survive a huge scare from the determined Cignal group.

AirAsia booked the first two sets to go up 2-0 in the match as Cha Cruz and Stephanie Mercado starred for the Flying Spikers.

Cignal HD however, got back in the third frame and opened a huge 16-7 advantage later in the fourth frame behind the attacking of Honey Royse Tubino and Danika Gendrauli.

AirAsia’s Mic-mic Laborte however tried to make easy work of the HD Spikers as they rallied back to pull within 22-23. A Tubino drop however forced a decider.

Teams went back and forth in the final set as Tubino and Abigail Praca traded bombs with Laborte and Cha Cruz.

Laborte’s quick hits got the better of Cignal; spikes from Marano and Cruz made it 13-11 for AirAsia before the former finished the match with a runner. Mercado and Laborte added 15 and 13, respectively for the undefeated Flying Spikers, who capitalized on a miserable 46 errors from Cignal.

Ramil De Jesus’ crew also had 57 attacks compared to just 44 hits for Cignal as they walked away with win number two.

Honey Royse Tubino paced Cignal with 24 markers.
