MANILA, Philippines - With their backs against the wall, PLDT Home Ultera beat the Philippine Army Lady Troopers in 4 sets, 25-16, 25-22, 19-25, 25-16, to force a deciding Game 3 in the Shakey’s V-League Finals on Sunday, May 24, at the FilOil Flying V Arena in San Juan.
Alyssa Valdez, fresh from being named the league's Most Valuable Player, led PLDT with 26 points while Charo Soriano and Jaja Santiago contributed to the victory by scoring a combined 28 points as PLDT bounced back from their Game 1 defeat, which was their first of the season.
PLDT showed its dominance in the first set, easily prevailing 25-16 with Army committing 11 costly errors that let their opponents run off to an early lead.
Army came back stronger in the second set but still fell short after a late error by Honey Royse Tubino and Jaja Santiago and timely kills from Valdez and Santiago sealed the period.
Army bounced back in the third set thanks to strong net defense, going on top early and cruising to an easy 25-19 win to stay alive.
