FEU whips NCAA champs Arellano in V-League clash

MANILA, Philippines — The Far Eastern University Lady Tamaraws outlasted NCAA champions Arellano University Lady Chiefs, 25-23, 21-25, 25-21, 25-16, to grab a share of the top spot in Group A of the Shakey’s V-League 12 Collegiate Conference on Sunday, July 19 at the FilOil Flying V Arena in San Juan. 

Bernadeth Pons unleashed 21 points, with 18 she earned off of attacks and 3 blocks, as FEU claimed a 2-0 slate tied for first in their group with National University. 

Guest player Jovelyn Gonzaga had 12 kills on a total of 15 markers, while Mary Joy Palma added 10 points including 3 blocks.

The Lady Tamaraws had some difficulty stabilizing themselves and committed 39 errors but figured in a mean finishing kick in the fourth to avoid a decider. 

Danna Henon was the only Lady Chief in double figures with 11 on 10 spikes.  

Guest player and former Lady Bulldog Mina Aganon and Menchie Tubiera added 9 points apiece as Arellano slipped to 1-1.

FEU clashes with PUP on Saturday, July 25 while Arellano takes on a well-oiled NU side led by Jaja Santiago in the same day’s opener.— Rappler.com
