The Chicago Marathon becomes the latest major marathon to fall victim to the coronavirus

Chicago Marathon organizers confirmed on Monday, July 13,  that this year’s race had been canceled due to concerns over the coronavirus pandemic.

A statement said the race, scheduled for October 11, had been shelved after a decision by organizers and the City of Chicago.

Chicago’s decision had been largely expected, with several other major marathons around the world already suffering the same fate.

The announcement came a month after Boston canceled its marathon for the first time in the event’s 124-year history.

TheNew York City marathon was also canceled  as well as the Berlin Marathon in a bid to halt the spread of COVID-19

The London Marathon has been postponed until October 4, while the Tokyo Marathon was held with a reduced field of elite runners. – Rappler.com
