Eduard “Landslide” Folayang will be back in the place where he first snagged gold.
On October 30, the former multiple-time ONE lightweight world champion returns to “The Lion City” to face Antonio “The Spartan” Caruso at ONE: Inside the Matrix at the Singapore Indoor Stadium.
Folayang won the ONE lightweight world title in that very same venue, beating Shinya “Tobikan Judan” Aoki in 2016 – and competing there could be just what he needs to reverse his luck.
Having gone 1-3 in his recent bouts against quality opposition, Folayang thinks he just needs to tweak a few things to get back on top of the division.
“I feel like I still have a lot more to give,” Folayang said.
“As an athlete, you would know when it’s time to stop. As for me, I still believe I have a long way to go and the next few fights could show that.”
“Landslide” is coming off a split-decision loss to third-ranked Pieter “The Archangel” Buist in January in a match that was neck-and-neck up until the Dutchman took control in the third round.
Folayang was the least bit discouraged about the outcome, however, knowing that the landscape of the division is crawling with top talent.
“In a sense, it pushes me, looking at how good the athletes are in the division. All these young lions looking to prove something, it is certainly motivating,” Folayang said.
“The goal now is to get better and better. Just continue to work hard and prove that while we’ve been here for a while, we’re still grinding every day to get better.”
Folayang and Caruso will be joining a loaded card bannered by 4 world title matches.
In the main event, two-division world champion Aung La “The Burmese Python” N Sang defends his ONE middleweight world title against undefeated Reinier “The Dutch Knight” de Ridder.
Over in Folayang’s division, ONE lightweight world champion Christian “The Warrior” Lee takes on unbeaten Iuri Lapicus, while ONE featherweight world champion Martin “The Situ-Asian” Nguyen faces Thanh Le.
Wrapping up the world title matches will be a clash between ONE women’s strawweight world champion “The Panda” Xiong Jing Nan and Tiffany “No Chill” Teo.
Indian wrestling champion Ritu “The Indian Tigress” Phogat will open the show when she takes on Cambodia’s Nou Srey Pov. – Rappler.com
