Execration exacts revenge on Blacklist International in the Mobile Legends Southeast Asia Cup grand finals to win its first major title

Execration completed its redemption campaign against Blacklist International to claim the Mobile Legends Southeast Asia Cup (MSC) crown on Sunday, June 13.

Beaten by Blacklist for the title in the Mobile Legends Professional League Philippines (MPL PH) Season 7, Execration earned its revenge with a 4-1 win in their best-of-seven grand finals.

MSC Most Valuable Player Duane “Kelra” Pillas saved the best for last as he put up 15 kills and 5 assists against 2 deaths on Chang’e to lead Execration in the series-clinching Game 5.

Blacklist still had three players standing to defend its base but Kelra killed both Danerie James “Wise” del Rosario (Granger) and Edward “Edward” Dapadap (Paquito) to inch closer to victory.

Kelra and Kiel VJ “Kielvj” Hernandez (Brody) then destroyed the Blacklist base with under 15 minutes into Game 5 as Execration captured its first major title after failing to win a championship in seven seasons of MPL PH.

Kielvj backstopped Kelra in Game 5 with 8 kills and 15 assists against 2 deaths, while Patrick “E2max” Caidic had 3 kills and 21 assists against 4 deaths on Rafaela.

Joshua “Ch4ku” Mangilog also starred for Execration with 1 kill and 20 assists against 2 deaths on Diggie, while Renz “Renzio” Cadua put up 2 kills and 14 assists against 3 deaths on Gloo.

Undefeated throughout the MSC, Blacklist looked like the clear favorite for the crown after drawing first blood against Execration.

But Execration – having learned from its loss to Blacklist in the MPL PH Season 7 finals – won the next four games to bag the top prize of $70,000 (around P3.3 million).

It was an impressive title run for Execration as it survived the lower bracket to set up an all-Filipino grand finals with Blacklist.

Execration eliminated Cambodian team Impunity KH, Malaysian squad RSG MY, and Indonesian champion EVOS Legends in the lower bracket.

With the victory, Execration finally gave sixth man Billy “Z4pnu” Alfonso, who has been with the team since MPL PH Season 1, his first championship in a major tournament.

Blacklist settled for $30,000 (around P1.4 million). – Rappler.com
