First impressions: How women fit into the Adidas Formotion collection

The new Adidas Formotion collection empowers women to achieve their fitness goals in comfort and safety

In the women’s fitness apparel industry, there aren’t many products that have been developed with all of an active woman’s needs in mind.

But Adidas’ Formotion line, which was created and designed by an all-female team, has put a lot of attention to details that will address several issues that women experience when working out.

Rappler was able to receive a set of the new collection and was given a chance to test them out in action with the country’s athletes and other women in Philippine media.

A fit for every woman

I was given the aeroknit bra and 7/8 high-rise tights in small.

I was pretty impressed with the size range because the Formotion line offers a total of 11 sizes ranging from XXXS to XXXXL, for a more accurate fit for all women.

Oftentimes, I would have to size up and settle for a medium, but then it compromises the length of the leggings. It’s also the main reason why I don’t buy 7/8 leggings because I’m not a very tall person.

However, true to its measurements on the size chart, I was very surprised that the length of the leggings were perfect!

My colleagues also had the same thoughts about how inclusive the sizes were to extra petite women and plus size women as it is very difficult to find workout clothes that fit them perfectly.

Though Adidas boasts of giving the body an extra sculpt, I did not see a big difference with my other activewear, but it definitely was designed to tighten some difficult areas of the female body, especially on the hips.

The bra was labeled to have light support, so it would be recommended for those doing non-cardio workouts and mobility exercises.

Though I personally prefer high-support bras, others praised the aeroknit bra to be comfortable for those with bigger busts and cup sizes.

Perfect balance of compression and mobility

The Formotion line focuses heavily on performance as it utilizes a new graded compression fabric structure that gives targeted muscle support specifically for women.

I could definitely agree that I was impressed with the overall performance of the aeroknit tights specifically.

I tested the Adidas Formotion line in a bootcamp class a day after recovering from iliotibial band (IT band) pain and I got a lot of support on my hips as I did my squats and lunges during the workout.

Though the leggings were tight, I remained mobile enough to execute other exercises, especially when it came to cardio and flexibility moves.

At first, I was also very mindful of doing splits and stretches during my cool down because I was scared of ripping the leggings, but then I realized that the leggings were created to be durable for flexibility while maintaining high-performance compression.

During the group workout, a lot of women appreciated the fact that the leggings were squat-proof, which provided them a sense of safety when they’ll be allowed to go back and work out in gyms after the lockdown is lifted.

Perfect for the summer

I definitely wanted to challenge the Formotion line, so I decided to test its comfort and its ability to keep my body cool and dry by joining a bootcamp class at 12 noon.

The material just continued to amaze me because despite the knit fabric used, I did not feel any fatigue caused by the heat while working out in 33°C weather.

I usually wouldn’t even dare to wear full-length leggings while working out during the summer, but I would not count out anything from this adidas Formotion collection.

It is not completely sweat-proof, though, because I would still catch some sweat patches on some areas, but the colors were carefully chosen to make them not too visible and for you to still look fresh after a workout.

The aeroknit fabric is also anti-slip compared to the usual spandex material, which adds more grip and support for women who train with a lot of equipment like dancers and gymnasts.

Overall, the adidas Formotion leggings are really a game-changer in the whole collection in my opinion with its versatility and its prime focus to empower women on how they will look and feel. – Rappler.com
