New Azkals coach on board next month as Asian Cup buildup gets going
Team manager Dan Palami says the new Azkals coach succeeding Thomas Dooley will be introduced on June 14

MANILA, Phillippines – The new Philippine Azkals coach will quickly face a tough test.

Even after steering the Azkals to a historic Asian Cup berth, coach Thomas Dooley will no longer join the national men’s football team as it gears up for the 2018 AFF Suzuki Cup and AFC Asian Cup UAE 2019.

A new coach will be named on June 14, 2018, Azkals team manager Dan Palami announced on Friday, May 18, during the Business of Football conference.

Dooley‘s contract ended on March 31 after steering the Azkals past Tajikistan in the Asian Cup qualifiers that secured them a historic berth in the continental tournament.

Palami also said a training camp for the nationals in Bahrain in September 2018 has been arranged.

The Bahrain national team sent an invitation to the Philippines for a friendly that will be held on September 11. The Azkals are still looking to arrange a friendly with a World Cup team, particularly the Socceroos in October.
