MANILA, Philippines – A ruthless Global FC unleashed a 9-goal onslaught on their latest victim as they toppled Team Socceroo, 9-nil, to stay within striking distance of league-leading Loyola Meralco in the 2014 United Football League, Thursday, March 20, at the Emperador Stadium in Taguig City.
Mark Hartmann brought his season total up to 18 goals after he poured in four goals against Socceroo tonight, helping Global FC improve to 31 points and keep at pace with his former squad Loyola who are just ahead by a solitary point after 13 games.
The league’s current top scorer torched Socceroo as soon as the opening whistle sounded, scoring a brace just 10 minutes into the game courtesy of goals in the 3rd and 9th minute.
Coach Leigh Manson’s boys displayed Global’s attacking might as Izzo El Habib made it 3-0 in the 24th while Hartmann completed his hat trick just two minutes after the break for 4-nil.
Jason de Jong pinched in Global’s goal number five in the 52nd before Hartmann scored his fourth in the hour mark.
Even Socceroo defender Stanley Ankrah had a hand in Global’s goal-fest after scoring an embarrassing 76th minute goal, adding misery to his squad’s growing headaches.
Substitutes Napoleon Bustillo and Milad Behgandom made the most of their limited time on the pitch as they also found the back of the net in the dying moments of the lopsided match.
Global could have been 10-nil winners when Jeffrey Christiaens drilled one in the 84th only to see his goal scratched off after the referee ruled him offside.
With the win, Global rises to 10 wins, a draw and two losses while Socceroo absorbs its eighth defeat this season to stay one rung above bottom dwellers Pasargad in the table with nine points.
Kaya 2, Army 0
Another contender in Kaya FC also took home the full three points after nipping Philippine Army – GTI FC, 2-nil, in the night’s opening game.
Azkals youngster Kenshiro Daniels put David Perkovic’s squad a goal ahead in the ninth after banking in OJ Porteria’s dish inside the box while supersub Janrick Soriano scored the insurance goal in the 62nd, just two minutes after he entered the game.
Kaya continued to pepper Army’s defense but the troopers were left flattered by the slim margin after the final whistle.
With the win, Kaya stays in the championship race at third place with 24 points while Army remains sixth with 13 points.
Kaya faces Pasargad next on March 25 while Global will try to overtake Loyola as they take on Pachanga Diliman on the same day. Team Socceroo, meanwhile, squares off with Green Archers United two days later with Army returning to action on March 30 against Pachanga Diliman. – Rappler.com
