MANILA, Philippines – The Philippine national football team is set to get closer to their fans through an initiative by a mobile content firm.

Through a program by Gotdeals Mobile Inc., fans of the Azkals will now receive updates and ‘premium mobile content’ directly from the team through SMS.

The age of Social Media has broken boundaries that made the followers of sports acquire more up-to-date news about their beloved teams but Jay Adevoso, managing partner of Gotdeals, claimed that their platform would give a fresh take on the bits of information that they will provide.

Adevoso said that they aim to tap the estimated 60% of the total mobile phone users, who have limited or no access to the convenience a smartphone can give.

“We want to cater to the people who don’t have a smartphone,” he stated.

The SMS-based program will be available to the subscribers of local telecommunications service providers by texting AZKALS ON to 2626 for Globe and 2263 for Smart.

Also, according to Adevoso, a percentage of the revenue from their service will be given to the Azkals to help the team financially in their bid for the upcoming World Cup Qualifiers.

The initiative is the second of its kind that was launched by a third party organization in the past few weeks to help buffer the expenses of the squad in their upcoming tournaments.

Meanwhile, Azkals head coach Thomas Dooley acknowledged the help that it will be bringing to their plate.

“We are not like other teams who has millions of dollars. Its a great opportunity for us to get a little bit of money on the side to help us in our campaign in the world cup.”

Lastly, domestic football star Phil Younghusband emphasized that aside from the monetary support that it will bring to the Azkals, it will also help them get closer to their fans.

“[it will be helpful as] one of the problems we have is that our fans [will now know] when our games are and get the full schedule of our games,” he ended. –
