Like any ElClasico match, LaLiga legends still feel that the 3 points from one of the greatest rivalries of football is always up for grabs.
However, former Barcelona star Carlos Puyol feels that drama is brewing up on the pitch based on the recent events surrounding the Catalan club.
“I hope Barcelona is going to be able to win. I’m convinced that Barcelona will want their revenge, so I’m sure there will be a lot of drama on the pitch,” said Puyol in the LaLiga ambassador’s gala on Tuesday, October 20.
The FC Barcelona lifer who played for the club’s A-team from 1999-2014 was referring to Barcelona’s painful 1-0 loss to Getafe.
But as Puyol expected, the Blaugrana bounced back with a 5-1 domination of Ferencvarosi as a warmup for the meeting with Real Madrid on Saturday, October 24. (READ: Catch 2020 La Liga El Clasico in the Philippines)
Former Real Madrid midfielder Fernando Redondo feels that the 90th edition of the ElClasico will be a different experience due to the COVID-19 pandemic.
For him, it will definitely be more surprising as the fixture will be staged for the first time in football’s new normal.
“It’s very difficult to speak up on favorites for a game of this kind,” said Redondo.
“The expectations and the motivation of everybody is huge and the history of each team is not really relevant in this case. We live in a very particular situation. A clasico is always surprising.”
Though it is a strange case, Barcelona legend Samuel Eto’o – who played alongside Ronaldinho and received an assist from a young Lionel Messi in his debut – knows that the highly-talented players will continue to make it a cardiac game for the fans.
“Such a wonderful a pitch without fans will be strange. It’s a unique game, but I’m sure the players are going to do their best for something dramatic in the pitch,” said the three-time LaLiga champion.
Though it’s historically a tight race for the title for both squads, Real Madrid legend Jose Maria “Guti” Gutierrez feels that it’s too early to tell if this ElClasico will decide this season’s champion.
“It’s not going to be [decisive for a championship], but this is going to be an important game,” explained Guti. (READ: 5 individual duels in October 2020 LaLiga ElClasico)
“It’s also good for other teams to measure themselves up to the two leaders.”
