Former FEU stalwart Ken Tuffin helps fuel the Wellington Saints offense from the bench

The Wellington Saints flexed their might once again as they routed the Canterbury Rams, 95-74, in their first home game in the New Zealand National Basketball League (NBL) on Friday, April 30.

Team captain Dion Prewster led all scorers with 31 points on a stellar 11-of-16 clip to go with 5 rebounds, 3 steals, and 2 assists.

Former FEU stalwart Ken Tuffin, meanwhile, sparked the offense from the bench with 13 points on 5-of-7 shooting and 3-of-5 from downtown in 24 minutes.

Although the Rams were just within a single-digit deficit heading to the fourth quarter, 63-72, the Saints left them in the dust with a 9-0 start capped by a Romaro Gill layup at the 7:38 mark for the 18-point lead, 81-63.

From there, Canterbury only got as close as 15 points, 72-87, before Wellington peaked with a 22-point gap, 94-72, with 53 ticks left off a late 7-0 run.

The Rams last got within striking distance entering the second quarter, 20-23. From there, the Saints took control with a 12-2 attack for the 35-22 lead midway through the frame, and practically never looked back.

Deshon Taylor led Canterbury in the losing effort with 18 points and a game-high 7 assists.

Wellington will get a whole week of rest as they next put up their dominant streak against the Southland Sharks on Friday, May 7, 3:30 pm, Manila time. – Rappler.com
