MANILA, Philippines - Gilas Pilipinas head coach Chot Reyes revealed through his Twitter account the roster of Team Philippines for the 2014 Asian Games.
In a tweet posted Wednesday, August 13 the Gilas head coach listed the 12-man lineup that will represent the Philippine flag in the 17th Asian Games, which will be held in Incheon, South Korea, from September 17 onwards.
2014 ASIAN GAMES roster: Jayson, LA, Gary, Paul, Jeff, JD, Gabe, Ranidel, Marc Japeth, Junmar, Andray. #LabanPilipinasPUSO! — Chot Reyes (@coachot) August 12, 2014
The most eye-catching portion of the tweet is the mention of "Andray," which refers to recently naturalized NBA big man Andray Blatche, who will apparently play for Team Philippines in the Asian Games instead of Marcus Douthit, who initially became naturalized Filipino citizen in 2011.
FIBA rules state that a team can field only one naturalized player in international competitions.
Last NBA season with the Brooklyn Nets, Blatche, who is currently an unrestricted free agent, averaged 11.2 PPG, 5.3 RPG, and 1.5 APG in 22.2 MPG of action. The 10-year veteran began practicing with the National Team after meeting up with the squad during their training program in Miami, Florida.
The rest of the lineup is composed of Jayson Castro, LA Tenorio, Gary David, Paul Lee, Jeff Chan, Jared Dillinger, Gabe Norwood, Ranidel De Ocampo, Marc Pingris, Japeth Aguilar, and June Mar Fajardo.
Notable absences from the list include sharp-shooting point guard Jimmy Alapag, hefty big man Beau Belga, forward Jay Washington, and, as previously mentioned, Douthit.
The 2014 Asian Games are set to begin just 4 days after the FIBA World Cup in Spain, which Gilas will also compete in, concludes.
It is unclear yet, however, which final lineup Coach Reyes will field for the World Cup.
