FOSHAN, China – Thirty-two squads vie for basketball supremacy in the FIBA World Cup, but only one can come out on top and take home the grand prize.

World No. 1 USA seeks to make history as it tries to become the first nation to rule the basketball world championships for 3 straight editions.

However, with a handful of NBA superstars – among them LeBron James and Steph Curry – opting out of the USA team, several countries gain prime position to lift the Naismith Trophy at the end of the tournament.

There's Serbia, which is touted as the biggest threat to USA's three-peat bid with NBA players Nikola Jokic, Boban Marjanovic, Bogdan Bogdanovic, and Nemanja Bjelica starring for the team.

Australia, France, Greece, and Spain also remain in play for the title behind their great collection of talents.

The Philippines, meanwhile, eyes to make a splash in its second straight World Cup with coach Yeng Guiao at the helm.
