MANILA, Philippines – Gilas Pilipinas Youth eyes to redeem itself in the 2019 FIBA U19 World Cup when it tangles with Argentina at the Heraklion Arena in Greece on Sunday, June 30 (Monday, July 1 at 1 am, Philippine time).
After dropping a 16-point decision to the host country in the tournament opener, the Philippines aches for its first win in Group C against an Argentina squad that is coming off a rousing 86-84 victory over Russia.
The 7-foot-2 Kai Sotto will once again be relied upon against the Argentinians after leading the Filipinos with an all-around effort in the loss to the Greeks.
Also expected to contribute for the Philippines are Gerry Abadiano, Dave Ildefonso, Carl Tamayo, Dalph Panopio, and Shaun Chiu.
A cause of concern for the team, though, is AJ Edu after he suffered what appeared to be a knee injury early in the Greece clash.
According to Samahang Basketbol ng Pilipinas president Al Panlilio, Edu "most probably" suffered an ACL on his right knee.
With Argentina ranked 9th in the world, the Philippines – ranked 30th in the world – needs all the help it could get to pull off an upset.
