MANILA, Philippines (2ND UPDATE) – Filipino-Japanese judoka Kiyomi Watanabe scored her third straight SEA Games gold medal in the women’s 57-63kg division on Saturday, August 26 in Kuala Lumpur, Malaysia. 

The rising judo star went head-to-head with Thailand’s Orain Senatham, who had to settle for the silver medal once again. 

According to Philippine Judo Federation president David Carter, the 20-year old Watanabe was expected to finish on top, as she ranks 23rd in the world in her division.

Meanwhile, Shugen Nakano also bagged a medal in the men’s judo under 66 division.

Nakano grabbed the bronze alongside Thailand’s Surasak Puntanam. Malaysia’s Chong Wei Fu finished with the silver while Mochammad Syaiful Raharjo of Malaysia clinched the gold medal in the competition.
