Kobe Paras leaves UP for a chance to play professionally abroad as the UAAP remains uncertain due to the COVID-19 pandemic

University of the Philippines (UP) star Kobe Paras decided to pursue his hoop dreams abroad once again.

East West Private, an Ohio-based firm that manages Kai Sotto, announced its signing with Paras on Tuesday, April 20, Manila time, and the former UP forward is now headed to the US on Wednesday.

“Let tomorrow be your second chance to prove that you are better than today and yesterday. Welcome to the family Kobe!” wrote the management firm, who also manages Fil-foreign talent such as Cholo Anonuevo, Sage Tolentino, and Caelum Harris.

Paras only managed to play one season with the Fighting Maroons after he served his one-year residency from his stint with Creighton University in 2016 to 2017.

The Maroons were coming off their first UAAP men’s basketball finals appearance in 32 years before Paras suited up for the team that placed 3rd in 2019.

The 23-year-old star has two years of eligibility left in the UAAP, but the league’s return remains uncertain due to the COVID-19 pandemic.

He last suited up for Gilas Pilipinas in the 2021 FIBA Asia Cup qualifiers in Manama, Bahrain last November. – Rappler.com
