Several Filipino sports figures, headlined by retired boxer Manny Pacquiao, are seeking government posts in 2022

For decades, Filipinos sports personalities have ventured into politics.

It is no different for the 2022 elections.

None other than eight-division world boxing champion Manny Pacquiao leads the bevy of sports figures who are seeking government posts as he runs for president.

Here is a list of sports personalities who are vying for national and local posts:

  • Tito Sotto, former national team bowler and current senator – running for vice president
  • Monsour del Rosario, former national team taekwondo jin – running for senator
