Even as the youngest participant, Lucas de Guzman had a solid outing in the Thailand Golf Association Junior World Championship

MANILA, Philippines – Filipino junior golfer Lucas de Guzman impressed a top golf official in Thailand following his stint in the recent Thailand Golf Association (TGA) Junior World Championship.

De Guzman, who turned six last July that made him the youngest participant in the 6-under boys division, had a solid outing during the two-day event at the Prime City Golf Club in Nakhon Nayok, Thailand.

As one of the runners-up, the performance of De Guzman was noticed by no less than TGA junior golf president Likit Chaiyakitch. He was part of the national team under the Junior Golf Foundation of the Philippines (JGFP).

“Likit Chaiyakitch approached us after the final round and he encouraged Lucas to continue training. He actually even offered to train him here in Thailand,” said Lue de Guzman, the young golf talent’s mother who was with husband Rommel during the competition.

De Guzman, who also heads the membership committee of the Junior Golf Foundation of the Philippines (JGFP), said they will look at all options regarding the offer for the young golfer to train with other Thai players.

As for now, focus is on the resumption of training on local soil under coach Toch Althea – the coach of golf champion Yuka Saso – and former Philippine jungolf winner turned pro Artemio Murakami, who caddied for De Guzman during the TGA jungolf championship.

The next tournament for De Guzman and other JGFP golfers is the competition in Jakarta, Indonesia this December.

“We’re looking at two options for our final international event this year, including the one in Indonesia. We’ll finalize everything in the coming weeks,” said JGFP president Oliver Gan. – Rappler.com
