Luis Moreno comes from behind to win the first race of the two-part Phoenix Pulse Formula V1 Virtual Cup

Luis Moreno displayed his mettle when under pressure as he ruled Race 1 of the pro division of the Phoenix Pulse Formula V1 Virtual Cup in come-from-behind fashion.

Trailing for almost the entirety of the 10-lap contest set at the virtual replica of the Monza race track in Italy, Moreno pulled through and clocked in 20:29.301 for the top spot.

Moreno overtook early leader Russell Reyes at the beginning of the ninth lap and fended off a gutsy challenge from Iñigo Anton to win by a huge margin of 5.561 seconds.

Anton finished at 2nd place with 20:34.862 no thanks to a five-second penalty he incurred during the third lap, while Daryl Brady recorded 20:35.054 for 3rd place.

Reyes, who held the pole position until the eighth lap, slid to 5th place with a time of 20:38.003.

Moreno earned 22 points for his Race 1 triumph, putting him in prime position to claim the championship as Anton and Brady settled for 15 and 12 points, respectively.

In the amateur class, Andre Varquez reigned supreme with a time of 20:27.544 to beat Francis Metrillo (20:30.875) and Jether Miole (20:45.679).

The event, which used the Asseto Corsa game software, will culminate with Race 2 to be broadcast by Tuason Racing on its Facebook and YouTube accounts on Saturday, October 17. – Rappler.com
