MANILA, Philippines – Petron Blaze used a crucial third quarter run to oust GlobalPort Batang Pier, 97-87 in the PDLT myDSL PBA Philippine Cup on Wednesday, November 20 at the Smart Araneta Coliseum.
Former Gilas Pilipinas standout Marcio Lassiter starred for 10 points including two triples in a telling 13-5 run which doused the Batang Pier's run late in the third period.
Down by a dozen, 44-56, entering the third period, Terrence Romeo and Jay Washington led a GlobalPort charge which pulled them to within 4, 58-62.
But Chris Lutz and Lassiter then unleashed a counter attack to weather the storm and put the Boosters comfortably ahead, 75-63 heading into payoff period.
The Batang Pier tried to steal the game one last time as brought down the deficit to 9, 68-77 but baskets by Arwind Santos and a three-point play by Chris Ross enabled Petron Blaze to break away, 97-79 with with just over two minutes remaining.
Both Lutz and Lassiter had 18 points for the Boosters. Lutz added 8 rebounds, and 5 assists in his impressive performance.
