Eight teams, including reigning champion Blacklist International, powerhouse Bren Esports, and new-look Smart Omega, will vie for the MPL PH Season 8 title

The Mobile Legends Professional League Philippines (MPL PH) is solidifying its operations for its eighth season by adopting a franchise model, as recently announced by game developer Moonton.

Included in this model is an upcoming code of conduct to uphold professionalism among its players and a standardized salary system to protect their value.

“[The model] will provide players greater sustainability and protection, which is a goal that we’ve been working and striving toward for ever since the inception of MPL PH,” said MPL PH director of business development Matt Jaron.

“We hope that the shift will encourage more players to participate or compete for MPL PH and boost growth within the local esports ecosystem.”

With the qualifiers system now scrapped in this model, eight teams have since secured their franchise slots for Season 8, namely reigning champion Blacklist International, Bren Esports, Echo, Nexplay EVOS, Onic PH, RSG PH, Smart Omega, and TNC.

Moonton will also launch a developmental league from Season 9 onwards to accommodate more players.

Season 8, meanwhile, will begin on August 13 through an online setup, while the playoffs will be held inside a bubble likely around the last week of October.

A prize pool of $150,000 (P7.5 million) will be up for grabs. – Rappler.com
