Allana Lim and Snow Penaranda banner the one-day showdown of basketball talent

Filipina basketball stars Allana Lim and Snow Penaranda will banner the inaugural National Basketball League 1v1 tournament on Saturday, May 22 at the Bren Z. Guiao Convention Center in San Fernando, Pampanga.

The one-day event will mark the debut of the NBL as a professional league and was approved by the Games and Amusements Board (GAB) as it complied with COVID-19 health and safety protocols.

Participants of the 1v1 tournament will play three, five-minute rounds, where the first player to score 30 points will win.

The pairings are classified into weight categories where there will be five divisions for women, while there will be three for the men’s side.

“It’s like boxing, but it’s basketball so it’s going to be entertaining,” said NBL/WNBL Executive Vice President Rhose Montreal in the Philippine Sportswriters Association (PSA) Forum online edition on Tuesday, May 18.

Lim and Penaranda will also play for the WNBL 5-on-5 league for the Parañaque Lady Aces and the Pacific Water Queens, respectively.

In the men’s side, Teytey Teodoro will go up against Arnaud Noah in one of the match-ups in the men’s event.

The two players made their name in the NCAA during their college days with the 26-year-old Teodoro starring for Jose Rizal University. Noah, meanwhile, captured the Finals MVP for San Beda in 2015.

The other match-up that has been finalized will see Raymart Amil of the Laguna Pistons battling Marvin Baracael of the Sulong Stan Spartans in the welterweight division.
