MANILA, Philippines – LeBron James was unanimously named 2016 NBA Finals MVP after leading the Cleveland Cavaliers to their first-ever championship on Sunday, June 19 (Monday morning, June 20).
Down 3-1 in the best-of-7 series, James, a 4-time NBA MVP, led the Cavaliers in a historic comeback as he scored back-to-back 41 points in Games 5 and 6.
In Game 7, playing in a hostile environment on the road, finished with a triple-double of 27 points, 11 rebounds, 11 assists to go with two steals and 3 blocks – the last rejection being the most pivotal as he denied a fastbreak layup by Andre Iguodala.
The Cavs, banking on a clutch go-ahead 3-pointer by Kyrie Irving with under a minute to go, overcame the gritty Warriors, 93-89, in Game 7. – Rappler.com
