MANILA, Philippines – The Philadelphia 76ers honored one of its own legends Allen “The Answer” Iverson in a Hall of Fame night on Friday, December 16 (Saturday in Manila).
The 76ers paid tribute to the 41-year-old retired guard at halftime of a 100-80 loss to the Los Angeles Lakers. A video tribute was played with highlights from Iverson’s 15-year NBA career, in which he cemented his legacy as one of the most memorable icons of his generation.
Julius Erving, also a Sixers legend, presented Iverson with a Hall of Fame jacket at centercourt.
“I don’t think you understand how much I love you all,” Iverson said to open his 3-minute speech, which you can watch in full above. “There has never been a relationship between an athlete and his fans like this ever. Ever. Ever.”
“I mean, honestly, it’s ’til death do us part for real,” he added.
Iverson, along with fellow NBA legends Shaquille O’Neal and Yao Ming, were inducted into the Basketball Hall of Fame in September. – Rappler.com
