MANILA, Philippines – Cleveland Cavaliers star LeBron James returned to Manila for the third time for his LeBron James “Strive for Greatness” Tour 2017 on Saturday, September 2, at the Mall of Asia Arena.
His event featured an exhibition game between Gilas Pilipinas players, where the veterans were grouped together in the Gilas OGs team, while the Gilas Youngbloods were composed of the younger members.
In the last 5 minutes of the match, James joined the Youngbloods in showing off his NBA champion skills that made fans swoon in the crowd.
During the event, James also explained what “Strive For Greatness” meant.
“Strive for greatness basically means that everyone, we all wanna be great, and whatever respective thing that you do, you wanna work hard at it and put in all your time. At the end of the day, you look all the results. We want to go as high and high and high as possible. Then you know, have fun with the rest,” said James.
The 4-time MVP also shared that he had fulfilled his promise of coming back to Manila after two years, since the NBA star was not able to make it in 2016 for his “Battle the Doubt” bootcamp.
“There’s no way that I won’t come back to Manila this year and I’m happy that I’m here celebrating with you guys here. You guys are unbelievable and I thank you so much. Thank you for being part of the LeBron James Tour 2017 and I hope you guys will continue to welcome me back.”
Prior to the event, James held a training session with the Gilas cadets at Kerry Sports Gym and a basketball clinic with less fortunate kids at Tenement in Taguig City. – Rappler.com
