The Grizzlies hack out a win even minus their starting guards as Lakers star LeBron James posts another career milestone

Jaren Jackson Jr. scored 25 points and Desmond Bane added 23 as the shorthanded Memphis Grizzlies returned to their winning ways with a 108-95 victory over the visiting Los Angeles Lakers on Thursday, December 9 (Friday, December 10, Manila time).

Tyus Jones and De’Anthony Melton added 12 points each as the Grizzlies won without starting guards Ja Morant and Dillon Brooks, who are in COVID-19 protocol. Brooks was a late scratch after playing Wednesday.

The Grizzlies have won six of their last seven games, all since Morant originally went to the sideline last month with a left knee sprain.

LeBron James scored 20 points with 10 rebounds and 11 assists for the Lakers to record the 100th triple-double of his career.

Anthony Davis had 22 points with 8 rebounds for Los Angeles, which is just 3-5 on the road since November 1.

The Lakers got off to a fast start, taking a 26-17 lead with 2:18 remaining in the first quarter on a three-pointer by Carmelo Anthony. But Memphis stormed back to lead by as many as eight in the second quarter and took a 59-53 lead into the break after 14 Los Angeles turnovers.

The Lakers pushed in front by four near the midway point of the third quarter, before the Grizzlies closed the period on a 17-6 run to take an 85-78 lead heading into the fourth.

Memphis grabbed the first double-digit lead by either team when they went up 88-78 on a Bane three-pointer with 11:46 remaining.

A 16-7 run by Memphis to open the final quarter was capped by a Jackson three-pointer and gave the Grizzlies a 101-85 lead with 5:43 to play.

Steven Adams had 13 rebounds for Memphis, which had 18 steals and forced the Lakers into 22 turnovers.

Avery Bradley and Talen Horton-Tucker had 10 points each for Los Angeles. The Lakers, who had scored at least 110 points in six consecutive games, dropped the opener of a road back-to-back that heads to Oklahoma City on Friday. – Rappler.com
