All 5 Nuggets starters score in double figures as they avenge their Christmas Day loss to the Clippers

In a game featuring two teams jockeying for position in the Western Conference standings, the Denver Nuggets played with a bit more urgency and outlasted the host Los Angeles Clippers, 101-94, on Thursday, April 1 (Friday, April 2, Manila time).

All 5 Nuggets starters scored in double figures, led by Jamal Murray’s 23 points, Michael Porter Jr’s 20 and Will Barton’s 19.

New addition Aaron Gordon added 14 points and 6 rebounds, while MVP candidate Nikola Jokic had a quiet night, finishing with 14 points – 13 below his average – and 7 rebounds and 7 assists.

The Nuggets shot 13 of 25 from the three-point arc.

Kawhi Leonard led the Clippers with 24 points and 12 rebounds. Paul George followed with 17 points and 8 rebounds, while Terance Mann chipped in 18 points off the bench.

George returned to the lineup for the Clippers after missing two games due to foot soreness. Marcus Morris Sr also returned to the lineup after missing Thursday’s game against Orlando with a calf injury.

The Nuggets avenged a Christmas Day loss to the Clippers, 121-108, in which Los Angeles shot 19 of 38 from long distance.

However, the Nuggets effectively chased the Clippers off the three-point arc on Thursday and made them drive to the basket. Los Angeles shot just 10 for 34 (29%) from beyond the arc this time.

The Clippers fell behind 31-20 at the end of the 1st quarter. They trailed by as many as 18 early in the 3rd quarter but managed to cut Denver’s advantage to 7 points with just over 4 minutes left in the period.

The Nuggets pushed the lead back up to 11 points at the end of the quarter.

However, the Clippers caught fire in the fourth, using a 13-3 run to slice Denver’s edge to 84-83 with 6:53 left.

The Nuggets survived by outscoring the Clippers 17-11 down the stretch.
