With Anthony Davis out due to a right calf contusion, Kyle Kuzma stepped up big for the Los Angeles Lakers in their 127-91 victory over the Minnesota Timberwolves on Sunday, December 27 (Monday, December 28, Manila time).
Starting in Davis’ place, Kuzma came out firing from the get-go as he unleashed all of his 20 points in the first half of action.
The 25-year-old Kuzma finished the game on a very efficient 4-of-6 clip from deep, along with 3 rebounds, 3 assists, and 3 blocks.
“I thought Kuz set a great tone for us early in the game,” said Lakers head coach Frank Vogel. “Just a great night for him, showing all the work he has been putting in.”
“Kuz has really become a hell of a player,” he continued.
The 6-foot-8 forward Kuzma, who usually comes off the bench, is averaging 16.0 points, 3.3 rebounds and 1.7 assists and has shot the ball extremely well from three-point range, shooting 8-of-13 in 3 games this season.
With Lakers superstars Davis and LeBron James expected to sit out more games as the season goes along, Kuzma can definitely show what he is capable of, especially on the offensive end, when given an opportunity.
“Just having more opportunity. That’s just the thing with me, anytime that I have an opportunity, I just try to seize the moment and take it for long,” said Kuzma. – Rappler.com
