Wayne Ellington calls the Warriors' Draymond Green a 'fake tough guy' for taking shots at his Pistons teammate Rodney McGruder

Wayne Ellington called out Golden State Warriors stars Klay Thompson and Draymond Green for their critical comments against his Detroit Pistons teammate Rodney McGruder.

Green and Thompson each took shots at McGruder after the Detroit guard confronted the Golden State bench at the end of the Pistons’ 91-119 blowout defeat to the Warriors.

Serving as a sideline reporter for NBC Sports as he continues to recover from his achilles tendon injury, Thompson lambasted McGruder live on air.

“This dude might be out of the league soon. He is probably mad about that,” Thompson said about McGruder.

“He is over here trying to start something like he is a good player.”

Green then went off on McGruder in the post-game press conference.

“When the f**k did Rodney McGruder become the tough guy of the team? I don’t know, man. Everybody in the league [are] tough these days. It is crazy,” Green said.

“Too many tough guys in this league these days for me. But I know ain’t nobody scared of no damn Rodney McGruder.”

But Ellington defended McGruder, saying it was Warriors’ forward Juan Toscano-Anderson who started the commotion.

“First of all, I think it is very unprofessional and not classy for somebody to attack Rodney’s professional career the way it was attacked,” Ellington said.

“[Rodney] is one of the most hardworking, humble, and down-to-earth guys in this league. For somebody to attack him like that, I think it is very unfair.”

Ellington particularly took offense at how Green reacted as he noted McGruder only wanted to “check the temperature of the situation” for what Toscano-Anderson said earlier.

“For Draymond to talk all that type of crazy stuff behind the microphone, I think that is the fake tough guy stuff,” Ellington said.

The Warriors are currently at 8th place in the Western Conference with an 11-9 record, while the Pistons are at 14th place in the Eastern Conference with a dismal 5-15 card. – Rappler.com
