MANILA, Philippines – After missing out in San Beda College’s dominant season-opening victory against the Mapua Cardinals over the weekend, Nigerian center Ola Adeogun makes his return to action on Thursday, July 2 as the Red Lions face Emilio Aguinaldo College.
Adeogun, a 6-foot-9 stalwart who averaged 16.2 points and 11.7 rebounds per outing last season and is playing his fifth year with San Beda, sat on the sidelines during their 102-89 win over Mapua last Saturday due to a hamstring injury that he suffered while donning Hapee’s colors in the PBA D-League.
Cameroonian back-up Donald Tankoua filled in for Adeogun’s void by scoring 18 markers to go along with eight boards.
Meanwhile, Baser Amer is set to miss another game for the Mendiola-based squad as he will be out for two to three weeks due to the shoulder ailment that he sustained during the recently-concluded Southeast Asian Games in Singapore.
Despite Amer’s absence, Ranbill Tongco and Roldan Sara stepped up and combined 24 points, four assists and three steals in their opening-day match with the Cardinals.
However, Art Dela Cruz had an all-around game versus Mapua as he wrote 27 points, 17 rebounds and six assists on his stat-sheet.
“A lot of guys stepped up in our first win, and we will need to summon the same spirit again for us to keep it going,” San Beda head coach Jamike Jarin said.
The Red Lions are gunning for early solo lead in the team standings as they square off with the Generals, who are now coached by former PBA player Andy De Guzman.
Aside from De Guzman taking the coaching duties from Gerry Esplana, EAC recruited Cameroonian big men Laminou Hamadou and Mbang Adoum Abba as a replacement for Noube Happi.
