MANILA, Philippines – After undergoing 7 difficult do-or-die games, Jose Rizal University notched a Final Four berth as the Heavy Bombers pulverized San Sebastian College-Recoletos, 91-69, on Friday, October 9 at the Filoil Flying V Arena in San Juan City.
Paolo Pontejos took care of business for the Kalentong-based brigade as the third-year gunslinger scored 23 points, while former juniors NCAA MVP awardee Darius Estrella also made his presence felt versus San Sebastian by registering 11 baskets.
With the shutout victory over San Sebastian, JRU concluded the NCAA Season 91 basketball double-round robin eliminations with an improved record of 12-6 and is now tied with Arellano University.
On the other hand, San Sebastian finished its season campaign with a win-loss standing of 6-12 as the Rodney Santos-mentored squadron has not entered the semi-final phase since 2013.
The Golden Stags, who played as party-crashers against Colegio de San Juan de Letran, San Beda College and University of Perpetual Help System Dalta, was led by graduating center Bradwyn Guinto, who had a double-double feat of 14 points and 12 rebounds.
