Nike Rise to continue with ‘We Rise’ project
The developmental program will run for 6 months and have 3 phases

MANILA, Philippines – A few months after the successful Nike Rise program, Nike Philippines is set to start another project focused on basketball development with “We Rise,” a 6-month training program for the athletes of Taguig City’s Tenement Community.

According to Nike’s press release, this next phase of Rise “aims to develop the basketball skills of young basketball fans who live in Tenement Court and instill in them the belief that they can RISE beyond belief and make their dreams come true.”

The Tenement court has become one of the more popular landmarks for Pinoy Hoops. In 2015, basketball personalities like LeBron James, Paul George, and Jordan Clarkson have each taken time out to visit the area.

Last Tuesday, November 9, James’ handprint was officially unveiled on the wall of the Tenement Court.

“The objective of We Rise is to provide a training platform to allow youths the opportunity to learn and develop basketball skills and passion within a structured program that hopefully leads to them having more confidence to pursue their basketball passions and realize their true basketball potential,” said Nike Philippines Country Marketing Manager, Patrick Reyes, who also mentioned that familiar faces of Philippine basketball will make guest appearances during the program.

We Rise will be spearheaded by head coach Ruben Lanot, the founder of Hoop Dreams Basketball Clinic – a grasroots and young athlete developmental basketball-training group.

Joining him are assistant coaches Ryan Villena, Louie Bautista, Jon Diokno, Vic Domingo, Arvin Braganza, and Rafael Galos.

A total of 25 participants from the 6-9 years-old age group and 50 participants from the 10-14 years-old age group will undergo 3 phases for We Rise:

The first is the Basketball Clinics phase, which will focus on teaching the fundamentals of the game. The second phase is the Basketball Camp to develop “individual abilities and team chemistry.” The final is the Basketball League phase, where organized team play will take place.

We Rise will begin in November.  – Rappler.com
