Cignal Ultra and Nexplay Predator Solid completed the lineup of teams that will clash in Season 6 of the Mobile Legends: Bang Bang Professional League (MPL PH).
Out of over 1,000 registered teams in the open qualifiers, Cignal Ultra and NXP Solid managed to make the Final 8 in the main qualifiers, where they ruled their respective groups in a best-of-three double-elimination format.
Cignal Ultra, the Season 2 champion, was on the brink of elimination during its Group A finals series against ArkAngel – another MPL PH champion – but it came big in Game 2 to force a do-or-die match and eventually seal its ticket back to the grand stage.
“Nakasanayan na po namin na ‘pag nalulugi or natatalo, kalmado lang. Nagtiwala lang po kami sa isa’t-isa na babawi kami sa Game 2 at ‘pag nanalo kami, makukuha na namin ang momentum at ipapanalo namin ang Game 3,” said Cignal Ultra team captain Deejay “ImbaDeejay” Astibe.
(We eventually learned to remain calm whenever we fail. We just have faith in each other that we can recover and if we win in Game 2, we’ll get the momentum to win Game 3.)
Meanwhile, crowd favorite NXP Solid ended its qualifiers run unblemished, beating Breakpoint and Iphios Esports and sweeping Team Chik in the Group B finals.
Awaiting Cignal Ultra and NXP Solid in MPL PH are top teams like two-time defending champion Aura PH (formerly Sunsparks), Onic PH, Bren Esports, and Execration.
Season 6 will start in September with $100,000 and the chance to be hailed as the strongest Mobile Legends team in the country on the line. – Aeron Gabriel V. Pantig/Rappler.com
