‘It's cute that she thinks she can knock me out in two rounds. I'd like to see her try – let's see what happens,’ says Filipina fighter Denice Zamboanga

ONE women’s atomweight top contender Denice “The Menace” Zamboanga clapped back at Meng Bo following the Chinese star’s recent claims about the fiery Filipina.

Meng, currently the second-ranked contender in the division, recently dished out her unfiltered thoughts on Zamboanga, saying the 24-year-old was only good at punching and that she would finish “The Menace” inside two rounds.

Naturally, Zamboanga didn’t agree with her sentiments.

“It’s cute that she thinks she can knock me out in two rounds. I’d like to see her try – let’s see what happens,” Zamboanga said.

Those comments came after Meng’s tough win over Samara “Marituba” Santos at ONE: Unbreakable in January, and Zamboanga wasn’t having any of it.

“Meng Bo likes to talk a lot. But talking doesn’t win you fights. She’s just asking to be humbled,” Zamboanga continued.

“Sooner or later, we will see each other in the Circle and the talking will be over.”

That match might happen sooner than later, especially with the way things are going.

Denice Zamboanga on Meng Bo’s callout: ‘She’s just asking to be humbled’

Zamboanga was originally granted a world title shot against ONE atomweight world champion “Unstoppable” Angela Lee following her impressive win over Mei “V.V” Yamaguchi

However, the pandemic – alongside the world champion’s pregnancy – pushed the match back, though that didn’t stop Zamboanga from proving herself as the most deserving challenger to Lee’s throne.

The Marrok Force standout put her top contender status at risk by competing against Watsapinya “Dream Girl” Kaewkhong and solidifying her spot by submitting the Thai Judoka in 88 seconds.

Meng is just as impressive in The Home of Martial Arts. Prior to beating Santos, she scored impressive wins over Laura “La Gladiadora” Balin and Priscilla Hertati “Thathie” Lumban Gaol

With Lee still transitioning into motherhood, it seems logical that the top two contenders should go at it, and that’s when Zamboanga plans to deliver Meng a proper response.

“You’ll just have to wait until we are together in the Circle. I don’t really like to talk much unless provoked,” she said.

“I prefer to do my talking in the fight. I think it’s going to be a surprise for everyone. I just want to get back in there and compete.” – Rappler.com
