Jenelyn Olsim hopes alternate-bout win will propel her into Atomweight Grand Prix

PROMISING. Jenelyn Olsim looks to sustain her strong start.

ONE Championship

Jenelyn Olsim, a 24-year-old firecracker from Baguio City, has been nothing short of impressive since making her ONE Championship debut this year

With a big opportunity now in front of her, Jenelyn Olsim looks to continue her roaring ways in ONE Championship

Olsim takes on Jihin “Shadow Cat” Radzuan in a ONE Women’s Atomweight World Grand Prix alternate bout at the previously taped ONE: NextGen II, which airs on November 12.

The 24-year-old firecracker from Baguio City has been nothing short of impressive since making her debut this year, but she promises that she has more to show.

“I want the fans to see that I’m getting more exciting and better each fight. I will do better today than my last fight,” Olsim said.

“I did my best in my previous bout, but I also believe that I can improve, particularly with my wrestling – and I’ll be more prepared for my next bout.”

Jenelyn Olsim hopes alternate-bout win will propel her into Atomweight Grand Prix

With wins over Maira Mazar and Bi “Killer Bee” Nguyen, the bemedalled amateur Muay Thai athlete has certainly turned heads in the promotion, and she was supposed to be in an earlier bout at ONE: Empower until Grace “Thai Kitten” Cleveland pulled out.

That left the match between Julie Mezabara and Mei “V.V” Yamaguchi as the only alternate bout. And with Ham Seo Hee pulling out of the tournament, Mezabarba will now be taking her place in the semis.

If Olsim wins here, she will be the rightful replacement should any of the women withdraw from the prestigious tournament.

“I am very excited for this match, as I know that not only can it earn me a spot in the rankings, I still can compete in the Grand Prix as an alternate,” she said.

While she has been on a roll, Olsim can’t be too confident against Radzuan, who’s also fresh off a win over Nguyen.

Radzuan evolves with each match, something that isn’t lost on Olsim. However, she remains confident of a win over “Shadow Cat,” owing to the familiarity her team has with the Malaysian star.

After all, Olsim’s teammate in Gina “Conviction” Iniong is just one of the two people to beat Radzuan in the Circle.

“She’s a very technical fighter, particularly when it comes to the ground, but I have the edge on strength and striking,” Olsim said.

“I am confident because my teammate in Gino Iniong already beat her, and now I want to do the same.”  – Rappler.com
