Pacquiao suspended from fighting, must undergo brain scans

MANILA, Philippines - So significant was the knockout blow to Manny Pacquiao that the world champion boxer will need to undergo a battery of brain exams to make sure he is okay.

Pacquiao has also been suspended from fighting for 120 days or 4 months, and is not allowed to have any contact training for the first 90 days.

This, after Pacquiao was knocked out by Juan Manuel Marquez in the 6th round of their bout Saturday, December 8.

Pacquiao's promoter, Bob Arum, said he would pay for the expenses of the extensive brain analysis that will be conducted on Pacquiao in the United States likely in January, to determine whether he is fully recovered to fight again.

While Pacquiao had already been cleared by the hospital after his fight, Arum wants to make sure no significant brain damage was sustained.

If cleared, both Arum and Pacquiao's trainer Freddie Roach have said they don't foresee Pacquiao returning to the ring to fight until September.

There are talks of a fifth fight between Pacquiao and Marquez, which both fighters are open to. - Rappler.com
