DUMAGUETE CITY, Philippines — A rough start did not matter for CALABARZON as the Region IV-A spikers opened their 2013 Palarong Pambansa bid with a 25-14, 25-21 win over Bicol Region.

Region V zoomed to a 5-0 lead in the opening set, but Anne Necessito and Margarette Galanza teamed up to bring CALABARZON back in the game and eventually race past their opponents at the Foundation University Gym here.

Banking on their blocks, service aces and a couple of unforced errors from Bicol, Region IV-A pulled away in the first to lead Bracket C with a 1-0 record.
