Western Visayas notches 2nd gold via shot put

DUMAGUETE CITY, Philippines — Renzy John Gemolaga of Western Visayas won the gold in the shot put event in Day 1 of the 2013 Palarong Pambansa athletics competitions at the Gov. Mariano Perdices Memorial Stadium, Monday morning, April 22.

The 17-year-old Iloilo native, winner of bronze in last year’s Palaro in Pangasinan, delivered his best shot in the final round, throwing 13.65 meters to edge out Central Luzon’s Bryan Jay Pacheco (13.37 m) and NCR’s Garry Santiago, Jr. (13.37m).

“I’m happy, but, somehow, I got nervous. I stayed relaxed even though everyone from the crowd thought the shot putter from Central Luzon will win,” said the 5’9” Gemolaga, who dreams of becoming a soldier. — Rappler.com
