NCR dominates artistic gymnastics

DUMAGUETE CITY, Philippines — National Capital Region romped away with 7 of the 8 gold medals at stake in Day 1 of the 2013 Palarong Pambansa gymnastics competition Monday night, April 22, here.

The high school group swept their division with gold medals in both the individual and team events while the elementary girls team won the team championships.

Carlos Yulo, playing in his first Palaro in high school after copping 8 gold medals in elementary, led the Big City gymnasts’ onslaught by topping the Men’s Artistic Gymnastics.

Teammates Martoni Abtana and Jag Timbang bagged the silver and bronze mints, respectively, for NCR, which finished ahead of CALABARZON and Northern Mindanao in the team event.

In the distaff side, Regine Reynoso, Mikaella Raisa Sunga and Sofia Gonzalez made it a 1-2-3 finish for NCR, who also dominated the gymnastics competitions in 2012.

Cotabato provides blemish in elementary

The Big City elementary women’s team also won the top prize in the team championships and was followed by CARAGA and SOCCSKSARGEN.

Gian Alexis Reomales grabbed the gold while teammates Micah Fenina Bernate and Mary Samantha Bustria copped the silver and bronze medals for NCR.

Big City’s John Ivan Cruz also won a gold medal in the individual all-around and was followed by SOCCKSARGEN’s Ron Vincent Pama and Renante Padilla, Jr. of Central Visayas.

Breaking the NCR run of dominance was SOCCSKSARGEN, which topped the men’s team championships and was followed by Ilocos Region and Bicol Region. –
